BBG

I had a lovely day at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden this afternoon. It's a really great spot to see some greenery and escape from the city (though you can still hear the traffic at times). Afterwards I found a penny on Union near 8th Avenue that was nestled in some sidewalk cracks. Sharp eyes. Penny-dar.

U.S. Oh! Show

So I saw a burlesque show last night with a few friends. I guess it was appropriate that I found two pennies that night too.

Desk Set

Friday was quite the day. Not really in terms of change. I first saw Tom Brosseau at Mercury Lounge and afterwards headed over to Enid's in Brooklyn where there was this crazy librarian event. It was put on by this group called The Desk Set. A whole lotta librarians dancing the night away to a mix of soul, funk and other eclectic hits from yesteryear. Anyway, last night I picked up 17 cents.

The Revolution Has Begun

There's a revolution afoot. It started at 2:53pm this afternoon. After months of neglect, action has been taken to direct a new course of initiatives. The old guard has been warned. Their ignorance and indifference to new lines of thinking has been noted. Today, we reclaim what is rightfully ours. And we shall persist. Our timetable is not measured in days or weeks but in the final result. No one can place a hold on time. And so it has begun. Today.

A Couple of Beers!

So I ended up finding two more pennies over the weekend. Outstanding, D!

That brought the total to $9.80.

Monday I found a penny: $9.81.

During my journey tonight, I broke TEN DOLLARS! I found a quarter between 6th and 7th avenue on 23rd street. It was from 2006 and the state is Colorado.

Also picked up four more pennies. 3 at Jay Street Borough Hall in Brooklyn.

I now have enough for a couple of beers. With tip. I think I know what next year's "cause" will be. ;)

Pennies

Well, guess what I found? Pennies. Wow. Surprising, huh? I mean, pennies are just about everywhere you look. Over the past couple of days I've found 10 pennies. After a concert I saw last night I found 8 cents. Earlier in the week I'd find a single penny on the sidewalk. This morning, two pennies near my apartment. Despite all the change I'm collecting, I'm barely keeping up with inflation! ;)

A little harsh

So my friend who was at the Yacht/LCD Soundsystem concert sent me a link about a song that this Yacht character did. And I gotta cut the guy a little slack....he wrote a song called "See a Penny (Pick It Up)". Can't diss the guy completely.....we're like kindred spirits now. :P

Saw 3 pennies yesterday. Picked up 3 pennies.

Team Yacht

Last night I saw LCD Soundsystem at Webster Hall with a friend. On the way there, my friend helped spot out a dime and a penny for me. I also found a few other pennies. Then after we checked our coats she alertly saw someone drop some change and didn't bother picking it up. I collected a quarter and a penny.

Well, the opening band was just....lame. LAME. He reminded us of what one of our friend's ex would listen to and be all ueber-cool. In reality it was a sad opening band. Kinda felt like I was at a talent show for middle schoolers. Here's the band.

After the concert my friend threw down a quarter on the sidewalk. I don't know if she's "slow" since she's been told plenty of times the "rules of the blog". Maybe deep down she wants to be a banker.

38th

I ran my first race since I did the NYC marathon in 2005. It was a five mile one in New Jersey. I came in 38th. Out of about 400. Nothing to write home about.

Money-wise, over the weekend, I found 16 cents.

pronounced "en-ye"

Met up with a friend this evening at this great tapas place called (that is pronounced) "en-ye". On my way to dinner, I picked up a dime and two pennies. Broke the nine dollar mark. Boo-yah. That's pronounced the way it looks.

Financial Economist Joke

Picked up a penny near the City Hall station as I was buying coin wrappers for all the other change I seem to amass during my transactions throughout the day. Why do I still do this? There are machines that will tabulate my loose change collection. Saw one at Duane Reade. They take out about 9 cents for every dollar calculated. Not bad......maybe I'll try it.

Anyway, here's the joke which I saw while reading "The Four Pillars of Investing" by William J. Bernstein:

A professor and a student are strolling across campus. The student stops to pick up a ten-dollar bill which is lying on the ground. But he's stopped by the professor who says "Don't bother. If that were a real ten-dollar bill, someone would have picked it up already." The joke pertains to the market behavior.

I guess it's gotta be worth more than a penny for people to pick up street change in this city.

No jackpot but still collecting

Well, I found a fairly decent amount of money throughout the evening yesterday. 39 cents worth. Still doesn't make up for losing the Kentucky Derby bet on a sign that practically hit me in the face. But overall, I have almost $9. Nine dollars. When I started, I didn't know what I'd get and yeah, maybe I'd end up with something rather miniscule but now it's forming into something a bit more marginal. My prediction is that I'll have $20 by the end of the year. You wouldn't throw away $20, would you?

Unlike Ace of Base, I didn't see the sign

ARRGHHHH.

I picked up a penny on my way to the OTB to place my bets on the Kentucky Derby this afternoon.

THAT WAS THE SIGN.

I placed some bets on horses that really did awful.

Who won: STREET SENSE.

My blog is called Street Change. DAMN.

WTF have I been doing this entire year?

Let's hope I read the signs before the Preakness.

(Also found a penny this morning on a bike ride and a penny yesterday)

Almost

Tonight I met up with some friends at this new Aussie restaurant in "Park Slope" called Sheep Station. It's on 4th avenue. Park Slope...right.

Anyway, they directed me to 16 cents lying in the restaurant. I had already found a penny on my way there. On my way home I picked up two dimes.

Almost paid for my meal.

Almost like the place is in Park Slope.

Goldmine!

April turned out to be quite the month. Yesterday on my lunch break I couldn't decide what to eat so I just kept walking and wandering. I turned onto Water street after about 15 minutes of aimlessness. As I was heading back to work I noticed a penny in a niche. Then a dime right next to it. Before I could realize it, there was a huge pile of change. All told I found $1.19!! just lying right next to this building!
