Men of Steel

I found a penny yesterday at the New York Burger Company. Wow. It was from 1969. Then I went and saw a play.

A-Courtin'

I was on Court Street yesterday evening and walking along when I discovered a penny and a quarter in front of this bakery. The quarter was from 1991. Later that evening, I used my night vision and found another penny on the street near my apartment.

"Another Penny"

I found, yup, another penny. This is from 2000. The curb is also a great place to spot loose change, especially near cars. I guess people fumble around getting out and change ends up on the street.

Bay Ridge

This evening I ventured down to Bay Ridge to have dinner with a friend. Before that I stopped off at another friend's place and picked up an aloe plant she was going to give me. This should give me some tips on caring for it.

I've really been in Bay Ridge (by the 86th and 95 street stations) twice. Both times was when I ran the NYC marathon so I can't say I've seen much of the area. Anyway, I picked up a dime on the way to my friend's place and also found a penny in the subway car back up to my neighborhood.

Martini Cowboy

Last night I went out and saw a band called "The Jack Grace Band". They were quite good and I liked their one song, "Martini Cowboy". That night I also found a penny from 1995.

Trio

I went out for lunch. Checked out this new place: Brooklyn Burger Bar. Okay burger. I'm not a burger conossieur. Found three more pennies.

You Say You Want a Revolution

I guess I picked the right time to go out and drop off my latest Netflix viewing and pick up my morning weekend coffee. There near the sidewalk was a quarter and on my way home, I found a battered penny from 1968. The quarter was from 1965.

5 Bucks!

I found a penny from 1994 as I was getting picking up some dinner this evening.

I have now collected $5!

It Was A Good Day

I took the day off and had a blast. Went running in the morning, met up with an old friend who recently moved back to NYC after a four year hiatus and got some new shoes. And I picked up six pennies so far today. Dates:

1971
1979
1994

1995
2001
2002

Three I found on the sidewalk. Three I found near the turnstile. In case you haven't noticed, the subway turnstile and immediate vicinity is a prime spot to see loose change. But of course, wait for me to pick it up! :)

b (r) a (e) a (c) l (ht)

On Wednesday I picked up a penny while I was at lunch. Last night I saw an interesting production of a Brecht play: B a a l which had the lead played by a woman. These guys are trying to see as many shows in 2007 as possible. Afterwards I saw a penny. Then a friend of mine threw down some change. She picked up the quarter but I picked up the penny.

Break-up Penny

On Saturday, I was on my way to see this cool girl that I liked and gone out with for about a month when I found a penny. Well, I got dumped. woo hoo. Guess I should check this site out: http://www.soyouvebeendumped.com/

I'll always have fond memories of St. Patrick's Day now.

Later that day, I was at a friend's birthday party and found a dime and later a penny on my way home.

Today I found 3 pennies and a dime. Life (and money collecting) goes on.

SPARTANS!!

Yeah, I saw 300. I'm waiting for the sequel, the 600. Actually there was an original 300 (300 old skool!) which I believe Frank Miller based his graphic novel on.

On the way to the theatre I picked up a penny. Sweet. Spartan!

Then in the theatre, I was riding the escalator and chatting with my friend when I noticed a dime as soon as we got off. I had to kick it away so as not to cause a collison with people behind me. It was from 1980. Check out the Sparta High School Class of 1980 25th Reunion pictures here. The school is in Sparta, Michigan. Spartan!

After the movie I was at the F stop at 14th street and found 3 pennies. I got a text message that a friend of mine saw five pennies at her station. Guess I chose wrong. Damn Xerxes.

German Word of the Week: Vokuhila. It means mullet and is actually short for vorne kurz, hinten lang.

No Euros

So I took a trip to Germany and spent a few days around Munich. I did not come across a single euro or any street change. Unbelievable. I was quite disappointed. Before I left though I found two pennies on the way to the airport. And I found a penny tonight.

One More Dime

Today I attended an all day law library program at the PLI institute. At the security turnstile someone had left a dime so I picked it up. It was from 2000. Monopoly was invented on March 7, 1933.

Clarification

I found a 1997 penny at the 51st subway station on the 6 line after Norwegian class. It was lying by the turnstile. This will count towards the total.

One of the recent comments stated I neglected to mention the $0.50 I turned down on Saturday. That is true. My friends who shall remain nameless intentionally threw down quarters on the sidewalk on two separate occasions. Yes, I could have had more money but it's not in the "spirit" of things.

I am not going to count those towards the total for now. The money I've found has been left, abandoned, misplaced, forgotten or disregarded. Deliberate placement of money that I observe doesn't fall under the randomness of finding loose change.

I will keep a tally because I know my friends and they'll do it again. I shall decide at the end of the year what I'll do with this amount.

Dos

After I saw SLJ's new masterpiece for 2007, I picked up two pennies on my way home. The dates were 1985 and 2007.

My "rate" of collecting money is about 7 cents a day. I've collected $4.38 over 63 days.

At this rate, for the year I'll pick up $25.55. Now that would be pretty impressive.

Movers and Shakers

Yesterday I found four pennies throughout the day. I found one before work and then three after work as I was heading up to Hell's Kitchen. I would've expected more change along 42nd street as I walked over to the West side but just pennies.

Today I was helping a friend move and found 11 cents in the process.

My friend bought us lunch and it was after lunch when I made the big discovery. We were walking along 5th avenue when I saw a quarter and actually lunged at it, shoving my friend out of the way. I think the overexcitement was due to the spotting of the quarter. But that's not all. Lying nearby were two more quarters!

The three quarters actually represent the three current designs. The dates were 1994, 2006 and 1976. The 1994 has the usual George Washington profile, the 2006 was a state quarter and this one features South Dakota; the 1976 had the bicentennial design with the Revolutionay War drummer. Quite an odd find all together.

Baker's Dozen

I found a dime and a penny this morning near my Connecticut Muffin coffee store. Normally I don't get coffee during the week but last night's karaoke fest left me a little fatigued this morning. On the subway way to work, I saw a penny and picked it up. I had my headphones listening to some Skid Row on but I think someone said "Gross". I've been wearing gloves when I pick up change and also use Purell. I know it's not the most hygenic thing in the world to pick up change. Anyway, when I was getting cash out, someone had left a penny on the counter.
