3's a crowd

Yesterday I found a penny from 1983 during my lunch hour. Today I found one penny near 52nd and 2nd before my Norwegian course. Then another penny at the 51st station.

I guess Wall Street had a rough day today. Good day to save your pennies.

Johnny Cash

Last night I went with some friends and saw some country music in tribute to Johnny Cash's 75th birthday. The concert was amazing! In the freezing cellar of Southpaw I picked up two pennies: 1984 (Cash was in a movie called "The Baron and the Kid") and 2003 (Sadly this is the year Johnny Cash died). Today I was out shopping for groceries and in the parking lot of the Key Food by me there were two pennies: 2000 and 2005.

Vier und Leben der Anderen

Last night I saw an interesting and well crafted movie called "The Lives of Others" which dealt with the surveillance of former East German citizens. Pretty relevant considering the recent climate of wire tapping on American citizens. The trailer below is in German.

After the movie I picked up two pennies near Angelika -- my first one from 2007. It gleamed so brightly, I had to shield my eyes. ;) This morning I got two pennies as I was picking up the NY Times.

One

I found a penny at the Whitehall station under the steps leading to the platform. It was from 1994.

Canadians think the penny's useless.

Which country will first abolish the penny?

Short and sweet

On my way home from Norwegian class last night, I spotted two pennies near 3rd Avenue and 52nd street. Then as I walked through the turnstile at the 51st station, there was a penny on the steps. The dates: 2 from 2004 and 1975.

Nickels "Under" Broadway (-Lafayette)

I was in Manhattan briefly this evening. At the Broadway-Lafayette stop just as I was passing through the turnstile to exit the station, I noticed 2 nickels and 2 pennies. Good things come in pairs, I guess. The nickels were from 1983 (not the best Chinese New Year) and 2002 (a useful reference site for work).

I found an additional penny near Washington Square Park on W. 4th and then two more pennies in the W. 4th station. There's that money zone again.

Point Break LIVE

Last night I saw a pretty absurd and very entertaining play: Point Break LIVE. Basically follows the script of the movie. The kicker: The role of Johnny Utah is played by someone randomly picked by the audience. That person then reads all the lines off of cue cards.

I picked up three pennies in the area near the theatre: 1981, 1988 and 1992.

Threedom

My walk to my morning coffee house led me to a penny from 1999. (Really cool remix of Binary Finary's song 1999)

I now have $3. It took me 22 days to get the first dollar. In 26 days, I found $2. You never know what's around the bend.

Extra Value Meal: $2.99

On my way home from spending a great evening at The Otheroom in the West Village, I was about to get off at my subway stop in Brooklyn when I just looked down. There were three pennies lying right under my seat. Dates: 1981, 1983 and 1998.

I neglected to mention the new dollar coins that were issued on Thursday. They will feature portraits of past presidents. Maybe I'll find one randomly. You never know.

Almost broke three dollars. Don't they say, your first dollar is the toughest? ;)

Money Zone

Despite the recent snow fall, I've found "tons" of money.

I've found 53 cents since Valentine's Day. The majority of the money coming between the Christopher and West 4 St. subway stations, my "money zone". I don't know what it is about that area. People just drop a lot of....change.

That's where I found a quarter, one dime and two pennies. I'm closing in fast on $3!

All told I picked up:
1 nickel
1 quarter
2 dimes
3 pennies

And I'm soon heading over to the West Village again.....will I be so lucky again?

Floss Daily

I was on my way to the dentist this morning. There were 4 F trains that were going towards Coney Island. Nothing going to Manhattan. I saw a penny on the ground. It was from 2006. Dentist appointment went well. Apparently someone in the Philippines suggests that on Valentine's Day, the couple should visit the dentist together. Afterwards, I was on the 4 train heading to work and spotted two pennies. One from 1994 and one from 1944, another Wheat Penny. Weird.

One Dime at a Time

This evening as I was picking up some groceries in my neighborhood, I saw a dime in between the ridges on a manhole cover. It was from 1984.

All in all, this was a pretty amazing weekend: 48 cents.

Motherlode

During my adventures in Manhattan yesterday, I picked up quite a bit of change. My total for yesterday's collection: 38 cents! I found one quarter and 13 pennies.

1 penny found near Half King.
Quarter found near Christopher Street.
11 pennies found by IFC Center
1 penny found at Jay Street

9....8.....

After my run, I was stretching and just walking around the bench near the park to cool down. I picked up two pennies. One was from 1968. I can't determine the date on the other one, it's in that poor condition.

T Minus 10

Closing in on another milestone. I found two pennies this morning as I picked up some groceries and a coffee. They were from 1978 and 2004.

Off to go running.

February 8

I couldn't think of a creative headline tonight. Just couldn't.

During lunch, I saw a penny near my usual soup place. It was from 1982. Then after work I found one of those elusive coins: a quarter. The date on the quarter is 1998.

This is going to be a short post as I'm rather tired this evening.

Blackjack

I did not win the NY Lottery last night. So despite my feverish efforts to obtain a hefty financial base in a relatively short amount of time, I did not participate in this.

This morning I located a dime at my subway station. It was from 1998. As I was doing laundry tonight, I saw a penny next to one of the washing machines. It was a "wheat penny"-- all the way back from 1944. I wonder if one of the original tenants dropped it. The design was done by a New Yorker. I also found another dime in the laundry room. This was from 2002.

Norsk

Jeg fant en penny og en dime i går. Da jeg tok treppen opp fra undergrunn tog stasjonen så jeg en dime neste treppen. Dimen var fra 1980. Penny-en var på golvet i bygningen hvor jeg arbeider. Den var fra 1970 (Titanic was a Norway rock band from that era).

Check these dudes out:

I dag var også en fin dag. Da jeg gikk til norsk kursen min i kveld så jeg to penny-er på 51st gate og 3rd Avenue. Etter kursen fant jeg en andre penny i toget.

Nå har jeg gjørt hjemmearbeid til norsk kurs. Her kan du lese om en norsk bibliothekar, Pliny. Jeg ønsker at jeg kunne arbeide i Norge.

(Obviously penny and dime are not Norwegian words.)

Später in der Woche schreibe ich "eine blog-Post" auf deutsch. Alles klar?

O Canada

Yes, it's Super Bowl Sunday. Advertisers are spending about $2.6 million dollars to air a 30-second spot. Some of the heavy hitters are sitting out though.

Well, I've found some money over the past couple of days. In fact, yesterday I found my first non-US coin. It was from Canada and minted in 1999.

What's happening in Canada? Maybe an earthquake in BC......won a few medals in speedskating at the World Cup.

So...that penny is worth currently about $.0084. I'll figure out a way to incorporate that at the end of the year.

Also yesterday I picked up 3 pennies and a nickel. I found a penny and the nickel at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. Today I picked up a penny on 10th Avenue and Windsor Place.

Been a productive weekend.

Six Cents

Well, my streak of finding consecutive pennies has ended. But not before I found one more. Coming back from a friend's party, I spotted a 2002 penny near Broadway and 17th. Another avenue over, the streak ended. A lone nickel from 2000 lying there just waiting to be brought in from the cold.

And that was when my good fortune ended for that evening. It took me a little over 1.5 hours to get home from 6th Avenue and 14th. I waited for the F train for a good 45 minutes. And I thought I was going to have an early night.

Should've used my six cents. Thank you ladies and gentlemen. I'll be here for the rest of the year. ;)
